Fidesagro partners with National Agri-Bank to expand micro-loan coverage

"This partnership represents a seismic shift in how we approach smallholder finance. By de-risking the loan at the point of origin, we're not just providing credit; we're providing stability." — Dr. Samuel Kiptoo, CEO of Fidesagro.

NAIROBI — Fidesagro, Africa's leading parametric insurance platform, today announced a strategic partnership with the National Agri-Bank (NAB) to provide integrated insurance-credit solutions to over 10,000 farmers in the upcoming planting season.

Closing the Credit Gap

For decades, smallholder farmers have struggled to access affordable credit due to the inherent risks of rain-fed agriculture. Traditional banks often view farming as too volatile, leading to high interest rates or outright rejection of loan applications.

Under this new agreement, NAB will offer low-interest loans where the insurance premium is bundled into the total loan package. In the event of extreme weather—monitored via Fidesagro's satellite network—payouts are triggered automatically, first covering the loan interest and then providing direct cash support to the farmer.

Voices from the Field

"In previous years, if the rains failed, I lost everything—including my ability to pay back my bank loan," says Sarah, a maize farmer in Nakuru. "With this new system, I feel protected. The bank is happier, and I am less stressed."

The rollout begins next month in five key agricultural counties, with plans to scale nationwide by the end of 2026. This initiative is expected to unlock over $5 million in previously inaccessible agricultural credit.
